This workshop took place in Malden, MA, one of the state's most ethnically diverse communities. The participants working in two groups were challenged to explore the theme of verisimilitude ("the appearance of being real") - a phenomenon which lies at the very heart of cinema. Special visits to Malden Fire Station, the Mayor's office and Fellsmere Park granted the filmmakers exciting opportunities to collect a range of footage, and pushed them to look for ways to tie it all into a story related to the theme. This workshop was Filmbuilding's first official collaboration with Urban Media Arts (UMA), which has since turned into an important and ongoing partnership.
