Tom Flint is the Founder and Creative Director of Filmbuilding.  His interests meet at the crossroads of film, education and cultural exchange.

The  filmmaker
Coming full circle with Filmbuilding, Tom's passion for film was similarly propelled by a video production course he took during high school.  After earning a BA in Film and Media Arts from Temple University, he developed a strong interest in foreign cinema and moved to Tokyo where he worked as a freelance filmmaker for 15 years in a variety of capacities, including director, writer, cinematographer and editor.

the  educator
Tom taught English for many years in Japan prior to becoming a documentary film instructor at Gunma Kokusai Academy.  His interests in moving image education led him back across the Pacific to pursue an MA in Art + Design Education at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).  He has taught filmmaking at various schools and youth organizations with a specialty in co-creative project-based learning.

the  culture  guy
Much of Tom's life has been spent exploring different cultures, whether through his own eyes or the lens of a camera.  His time spent living overseas and traveling all over the world has taught him what can be learned through an exposure to different  perspectives, customs and values.  He has taken part in numerous cross-cultural endeavors, including the Witness Tree Institute of Ghana.
